Changes in legislation regarding
CalPERS and Social Security will be discussed. These seminars provide valuable information for any classified employee, whether retirement is two years or ten years way!

County Supervisors Deny Help to Women’s Shelter

Board of Supervisors fails to help battered women and children. The Women’s Transitional Living Center is the only shelter in Orange County for battered women. The shelter is in desperate need of short-term financial help! Join us at a fundraiser for the shelter. Donate cash or bring a check made out to “Women’s Transitional Living Center” (any amount you can afford is appreciated). Come and visit us at OCEA’s Hot Dog Day on Monday, Sept. 29, 2008 – between 11:30 am to 1:00 pm at 830 N. Ross St., Santa Ana.

Help Your Chapter and Have Fun

Your Chapter of CSEA  needs  phone bankers for 10/1/2008 & 10/21/2008    Bring a friend… Spouse…. 18+ year old Child. It’s for local nonpartisan assembly / board  elections… and it’s CSEA members we’re calling only. We will be helping out our fellow Districts to elect education friendly candidates.  We help our neighbors they will help us. Come and help for a couple hours? Dinner and Prizes Provided , we will be meeting at  the Orange field office from  5:00 to around 8:00 pm.
Also we are precinct walking in Palm Springs 10/25 Same deal Local ( for them) nonpartisan… school friendly candidates. There will be precinct walking in San Diego on 10/11/2008.
CSEA will transport you for the walking. Lunch & refreshments Provided.

President’s Blog: September Update

Now that the long Hot days of summer are over, I’d like to welcome you all back.
Although last year was busy and stressful, overall we did a good job keeping things on an even keel.
Through long negotiations we managed to preserve most of the jobs and hours we have all worked so hard for. And through careful investigation and negotiation and simply looking at how departments are spending their budgets we may find some more money in the “seat cushions” so to speak.
We have already made great strides.
CSEA along with District Representatives, Beth Berndt and Bill Cline, we have negotiated and saved many positions that were to be eliminated or have the hours cut so severely that those in the jobs would have had to quit and seek new jobs.
One of the results of our work this summer was to reach an agreement with the District which lowers the enrollment based formula slightly. Continue reading “President’s Blog: September Update”

Experience Requirement

“Last year there was a job opening because someone retired. When the job was posted there were people who had worked at that job who applied. But, the person who was hired had no experience in that job, but worked at the school doing something else.
