Q. Are we going to end up with a deal similar to the teacher’s deal?
A.Your bargaining team is looking to reach the best possible agreement for classified members.
In many instances, the interests of the classified unit differ from those of the teachers.
The Teachers received a retirement incentive which Classified did not.
The Teachers apparently received an agreement that they would not be laid off this year,
in consideration for Furlough days.
The offer to classified did not include this guarantee or any type of job security provision.
Q. Will taking the furlough days effect my retirement?
A. Yes. If you are a 9 or 10 month employee this consequence will be more pronounced.
One year of service credit is granted for full time employment for any of the
following: 10 months of service for persons employed on a monthly basis; 215
days of service for persons employed on a daily basis; or 1,720 hours of service
for persons employed on an hourly basis.
