2013 CalPERS Election

Association President Michael Bilbrey is running for re-election to the California Public Employees’ Retirement System Board of Administration. It’s crucial to re-elect Bilbrey to a full, four-year term on the board so that he can continue advocating on behalf of classified employees and protecting retirement security.

In the election, CalPERS members will vote for two separate at-large seats on the board. In addition to supporting Bilbrey for the Position B seat, CSEA is also urging its members to vote for former California State Employees Association President J.J. Jelincic for the Position A seat on the board. Ballots were mailed to all CalPERS members starting Aug. 30. Completed ballots must be postmarked by Sept. 27 to be counted in the election. Due to the short voting period, CSEA members are encouraged to vote for Bilbrey and Jelincic and return their ballots as soon as they arrive in the mail.

Bilbrey asks all CSEA members to support his re-election to the CalPERS Board.

“I consider it a privilege to serve you as a CalPERS Board member; and I seek to continue to be the voice of the members, both active and retired, on the Board,” Bilbrey said. “CalPERS needs stability, even-handedness and well-reasoned decision-making to ensure that pension funds are invested wisely, benefits are delivered promptly and CalPERS is best positioned to meet our challenges for decades to come.”

In 2011, Bilbrey was elected to the board to complete outgoing member (and former association president) Kurato Shimada’s term. After a busy one and a half years, Bilbrey is now seeking re-election to a full, four-year term. Bilbrey is currently the second member of the CSEA Board of Directors on the CalPERS Board. CSEA Past President Rob Feckner serves as the CalPERS Board President.

Bilbrey is the Bookstore Operations Coordinator at Citrus Community College District and a member of Citrus College Chapter 101. He holds a Master’s in Business Administration, chairs the CSEA Investment Committee and Health and Welfare Taskforce, and serves on the CSEA Budget Committee.

Your Vote Matters!
Only 16 percent of voters return their ballots, so your vote can make a huge difference. You are eligible to vote if you have been a CalPERS member active as of July 1 or are a retired member (excluding survivors and beneficiaries) whose effective date of retirement was on or before July 1.

You will receive a ballot at your home address. Don’t forget to cast your ballot for Michael Bilbrey and J.J. Jelincic by Sept. 27. Make it count!
