I hope you are well. Your CSEA Placentia-Yorba Linda Chapter 293 negotiating team has recently reached an agreement with PYLUSD on our Return to Work / Reopening of Schools agreement for the 2020-2021 school year. While the District prematurely sent out this agreement to all Principals, even though it has not been approved by the CSEA Field Office, please be assured you will still have the chance to vote on it before it becomes official.
The agreement specifically addresses how we will operate this year given the COVID-19 conditions. Some of the highlights of the agreement are as follows:
1. A commitment from PYLUSD to follow all relevant safety guidelines as they pertain to sanitation, physical distancing, personal protective equipment (PPE), COVID-19 symptom screening, testing, school bus safety, etc., in order to ensure staff and student safety.
2. The ability for staff to work remotely. Remote work will be dependent on the phase of learning students are engaged in (i.e. distant learning, hybrid, etc.) and management has the sole discretion in offering remote work to an employee.
3. The commitment from PYLUSD to ensure that all added bargaining unit work associated with COVID-19 shall be first offered to CSEA unit members before anyone else. This will allow for extra hours and overtime opportunities for our unit members.
4. A commitment from PYLUSD to ensure that the majority of our members will have job security throughout the school year, and not be subject to layoffs, so long as there are no mid-year cuts to the funding we receive from the state and the federal government.
The agreement is currently going through CSEA’s 610 review process and it is pending approval from our local CSEA field office. Once the 610 review process has been completed, we will provide you the agreement and notice of ratification as we will need membership approval for this agreement.
