Negotiations Update 2-22-21

Hello CSEA 293 Members,
CSEA met with PYLUSD today for the parties’ 2019-2020 successor contract negotiations for the 25th time. Prior to today’s session, the parties have been at a stalemate in the area of salary increases – Article 18. CSEA has consistently maintained its position that our members deserve a salary increase for the 2019-2020 school year. Your team has highlighted on numerous occasions that PYLUSD’s budget shows it can afford a salary increase for the 2019-2020 school year.
Today’s bargaining session was scheduled after it became clear that the parties needed to clarify certain positions prior to heading to impasse. This bargaining session presented the possibility for the parties’ stalemate being broken as new education budget projections, and the installment of new PYLUSD leaders, seemed promising. While an agreement wasn’t signed today, there was movement made in a positive direction.
The parties were able to sign a tentative agreement on Article 13 Leaves.
For Article 18 Wages: CSEA received a proposal from PYLUSD for an on-going salary increase which was very much welcomed. The District’s proposal included NO salary increase for the 2019-20 school year, however they did propose a 2% increase for the 2020-21 school year retro to July 1, 2020.
CSEA believes that the District’s proposal is overly conservative, as they lost NO money for the 2019-20 school year and the Governor’s proposed budget looks healthy.
Our team countered PYLUSD with a proposal which includes the 2% wage increase with added contingency language.  This language would provide an additional salary increase to CSEA members should the Governor’s projected budget be adopted with no change, or if there is an increase in school funding.
At this time, the parties scheduled another bargaining session on March 3rd.
It is CSEA’s hope that we will be able to bring unit members more compensation than what is currently being offered. We need to hear from YOU, our members. Please answer the following survey no later than Friday February 26, 2021 at 5pm.
